The most powerful yabgu was Abakun ali Akhmat, who ruled from the middle of the 11th century. Under him, all nomadic tribes were united in the territory from the Caspian to the Amu Darya River. After the death of Abakun-al-Akhmat in 1102, his grandson Saladdin Ali Abdul Merhenrad became a new yabgu, who assumed a different name, calling himself Seljuk, which means “master of all people” in Turkic. Since then, the title yabgu has ceased to be used, and instead the ruler began to be called the Sultan.
