Born in the family of a bathhouse attendant.
In 1960, while still a schoolgirl, won the beauty contest, which was held concern Nikkatsu . As a prize, I was able to attend Nikkatsu photo studio as a model. After signing a contract with the studio Chieko starred in action films and youth films. In 1971, she left Nikkatsu, after which she mostly began to appear on TV shows. In the 1970s, with the image of Matsubara surpassed in terms of the number of sales photos of other popular actresses.
Matsubara was voted "the most beautiful girl of the Nagoya generation of the 60s." Together with Sayuri Yoshinaga and Masako Izumi ( Jap. 和 泉 雅子 ) she was one of the "three most beautiful girls Nikkatsu" .
