Length of fore wing of males: 30–40 mm; females: 33–41 mm. The front wing of males is at the base with 2 wide yellow strokes, one in the central cell, and the second underneath. On the hind wings, the yellow spots of the postdiscal and submarginal rows are the same in width. The female wings on the upper side are black with white spots and a bandage. The central cell on the front wing with a white spot in the middle [1] .
The central cells of the front and rear wings are not closed. On the fore wings, the veins R1, R2 do not branch and originate from the central cell. R3, R4, R5 have a common trunk, which also starts from the central cell. Veins R1 and R2 go to the costal (front) edge of the front wing, vein R3 to the apex, and veins R4 and R5 to the outer edge. Hind wings with a small eye in the anal corner. Head with bare eyes (without hairs), labial palps covered with scales. Antenna with a gradually thickening mace. Females are larger than males.
The species is common in North and West China [1] .
