History
On November 6, 2015, as part of a working visit to Latvia, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk and the head of the Latvian government Laimdota Straujuma opened a monument to Taras Shevchenko in Riga , in Kronvalda Park , which depicts the young Kobzar at the age of 23 [1] .
The monument was opened thanks to the Ukrainian community in Latvia [2] . The monument was authored by sculptor Igor Grechanik, who created it in Ukraine with funds donated by the Congress of Ukrainians of Latvia, Ukrainian society and representatives of other nationalities living in Latvia. In general, the cost of the monument amounted to approximately 85,000 euros [2] .
