History
The village is known for the fact that the famous Georgian writer and public figure Daniel Chonkadze lived there in 1830-1860. In the troubled years of 1916-1918, Chonkadze’s house was uninhabited and almost completely looted. In the 1920s, a school was opened in this building. Then the school expanded and became seven years old. The house was occupied by the local council, which was later transferred to a specially constructed separate building. In 1973, the council building burned down, and it again housed in the house of Chonkadze. By this time, this house was empty, because in 1972 the local school received a new building and was transferred there. From 1973 to 1979, Chonkadze’s house was also occupied by a library. In 1979, the house was renovated and in 1984 the house-museum of Daniel Chonkadze was opened in it.
