The first wooden building of the Yerevan Circus was built in the 1930s. In 1939, according to the project of Nikolai Buniatyan , a new building was built, designed for 800 spectators. This building was completely renovated in 1962 according to the project of Vagarshak Belubekyan under the leadership of Karlen Vardanyan [2] . The height of the four-story building was 18 meters, the auditorium was designed for 1.5 thousand people. The Pencil , Leonid Yengibarov , Igor Kio , Stepan Isahakyan performed on the stage of the Yerevan Circus [3] . Until the beginning of the XXI century, the building was not repaired [4] [5] .

The Yerevan circus was privatized in August 2005 for 150 million drams and became the property of the collective under the leadership of Sos Petrosyan [2] [4] . In 2011, Samvel Karapetyan , a Moscow-based businessman in Moscow , announced that his Tashir group of companies would invest $ 10 million to reconstruct the Yerevan Circus [2] .

Repair work was started in August 2011 by the Tashir group of companies [6] . Later it was decided to demolish the building and build a new one, because the old building was not subject to reconstruction [7] . The circus dome was demolished on July 21, 2012 [4] [6] . A few months later, on September 8, 2012, the building was completely demolished [8] [9] . The demolition process was led by the Ministry of Emergencies of Armenia .

Circus animals were temporarily moved to the Yerevan Zoo [6] .

The new building has 8 floors, including 2 underground, which will accommodate car parking. Hotel rooms are arranged on the top floors for those coming to Yerevan on tour of circus troupes. The height of the new building is 24-25 m, the auditorium seats 2350 people [3] . The circus has 3 interchangeable arenas [1] .
