Monument to Taras Shevchenko ( Ukrainian. Pam'yatnik Taras Shevchenko ) - a monument erected in honor of the Ukrainian poet, prose writer, artist and ethnographer Taras Shevchenko in the Kazakh city of Fort Shevchenko .

History
The opening of the monument to the Ukrainian poet was not accidental: Taras Shevchenko stayed in Kazakhstan in military exile, in the Novopetrovskoye fortification on the Mangyshlak peninsula in the Mangystau region , with the prohibition to draw and write (1850-1857). Now this Kazakh city is called Fort-Shevchenko [1] .
In total there are three monuments to the Ukrainian poet in Fort-Shevchenko, which were installed in different historical periods [2] :
- In 1881, to the 20th anniversary of the death of the poet, Irakli Uskov installed a monument to T. Shevchenko near the house where he lived with his family - the first on Kazakh soil and in the world. He was a bust on a round pedestal. The pedestal was made by Shevchenko’s friend, the Kazakh Karazhusup.
- The second monument to T. Shevchenko - a plaster bust, was installed on May 1, 1927 in a city park. The author is the sculptor Atrau.
- A modern monument was installed in October 1997. The author - sculptor V. Chepelik portrayed the Ukrainian poet in his uniform.
