The canvas belonged to a group that also included three other paintings, now scattered between public and private collections, depicting the following legendary themes:
- Dido at the base of Carthage
- Death of Sofonisba
- Semiramis.
The painting depicting Dido was preserved in the Hermitage, one with Sofonisba at the Pushkin Museum in Moscow, and finally with Semiramis is part of the private collection of Yves Micaloff (Paris).
