The Law on Military Duty and Military Service was adopted on December 23, 2011. This law "defines the rules of legal regulation of military duty and military service in the field of fulfilling the tasks assigned to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan , as well as to other military units created in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Azerbaijan." Content
Law
According to the law, all able-bodied males over 18 years old are required to undergo military service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan. If the convictions of citizens contradict the performance of military service, then substitution for alternative military service is allowed. Women aged 19 to 40 are also voluntarily admitted to the armed forces of Azerbaijan . There are four call periods per year. The duration of military service is 18 months, the period of compulsory service is reduced to 12 months for people with higher education. [2]
Initial military registration of citizens
Annually, military registration commissions are established, consisting of the Chairman of the Commission (head of the relevant executive authority) and members of the commission (medical specialists). Between January and March, male citizens who have reached the age of 16 years must be registered with the relevant military department. They must undergo a medical examination. Citizens with short-term health problems are sent to medical institutions for treatment at the expense of the state budget. [3]
Preparing Citizens for Military Service
Calling up
Preparation for the call is carried out in schools and universities. Pupils and students also conduct basic military training lessons.
Military training
Citizens who have reached the age of 17 can study in a military specialty in educational institutions. Citizens who want to receive this training should temporarily leave their work, but at the same time receive a salary every month during the period of study. And at the end of training, they can return to their workplace
Deferment from military service
Permanent Delay
Citizens of the following categories should not be present in the armed forces of Azerbaijan:
- People with serious health problems, including the mentally ill;
- Citizens Arrested for Serious Crime
- Citizens who enter preventive and operational registration in the police department;
Time Delay
Temporary delay is granted to citizens for the following reasons:
Due to family situation
- Fathers whose wife is incapable of work and whose children cannot support themselves;
- The eldest son in the family whose members cannot support themselves;
- Fathers of more than three children;
- The only son in the family with one of the parents unable to work;
Due to health problems
Citizens with short-term health problems identified during a medical examination are postponed to work in the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan.
To continue learning
- Citizens under the age of 20 who have received full secondary education in educational institutions
- Citizens under the age of 20 who have not received full secondary education until they enter the institutions of the primary function of vocational education
- Citizens who receive higher education (bachelor's degree), or higher education in the field of medical education and education in the residence (before graduation) in institutions and their branches
- Citizens receiving higher education in foreign countries (bachelor's degree), higher education in the field of medicine and internship until completion of studies. [four]

Military ranks are transferred to military personnel in accordance with their martial law, military education, duration of military service and some other features.
