Impact on Arzamas

Despite the brief existence of the Arzamas region, this period had a noticeable impact on the city’s appearance - the rapid construction of the “front” part of Kalinin Street began, which for many decades became the central street of Arzamas; buildings were built and reconstructed to accommodate the regional administration and the regional court, a regional clinical hospital was organized (the regional hospital public transport stop retained its name 25 years after the liquidation of the Arzamas region, although the hospital itself was a city long ago). Decisions were made on the organization of higher education institutions in Arzamas, made after the liquidation of the region - in 1960, the Training and Consulting Center of the Gorky Polytechnic Institute named after A. A. Zhdanova, which later became the Arzamas branch of the Moscow Aviation Institute.

As an attribute of the regional center, a school appeared in Arzamas at the same time, teaching a number of subjects in English. The construction of the Arzamas TV Tower (project 3803 KM ), commissioned in early 1960, was also launched. At that time, such television towers were attributes of only regional centers. The construction of the airport has begun.

During the years of the existence of the Arzamas region, the construction of the city’s largest industrial enterprise, the Arzamas Instrument-Making Production Association, originally consisting of “PO Box 15” and “PO Box 211” (colloquially called “Fifteenth Plant”), began. Construction began in 1956, and in 1957 (but after the liquidation of the region) the plant produced its first products. The transfer of part of the buildings intended for the regional administration to the plant accelerated the construction of the plant.
