Walter Bruno Giger ( German: Walter Bruno Gyger ; November 3, 1946 , Reetobel , canton of Appenzell-Ausserroden , Switzerland ) - Swiss diplomat , Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation in the Russian Federation (since 2009). Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science .
Biography
After completing his banking studies at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland in 1974, W. Giger joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) of the Confederation. He performed diplomatic missions in Iran , Geneva , Paris and Bonn , then was transferred to Bern , where he was appointed deputy director for international organizations in the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In 1991, he was sent as ambassador to Senegal , Mali , Cape Verde , Guinea-Bissau and the Gambia . In 1994, he was appointed head of the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the UN in Geneva .
In 1999, the Swiss government sent V. Giger as ambassador to India , Nepal , Bangladesh and Bhutan . In 2004-2008, he was ambassador to Turkey . From March 2007 to December 2007 he was also accredited as an ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan .
Since 2009 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation in the Russian Federation [1] .
Since January 2012, he has been heading the Geneva Diplomatic Club (bringing together 35,000 diplomats and international civilian diplomats).
Since 2015, he represents the international organization Rotary International in Geneva.
Married to a Turkish woman. They have three children.
