Doyle, John (soccer player)

John Joseph Doyle ( born John March 16, 1966 ) is an American professional footballer who played as a defender in various championships of the United States and played in Europe (in Germany and Sweden). Twice became the best football quarterback in the United States (in 1995 and 1996), spent 53 games for the US team (including two at the 1990 World Cup ) and played at the Olympics in Seoul . Prior to his dismissal on August 29, 2016, he served as general manager of the San Jose Earthquakes football club, speaking at MLS [1] .

Content

Early years

Doyle went to Washington High School in the American city of Fremont ( California ) and played for the boys team, winning the league championship with her, becoming one of the top scorers and getting into the symbolic team in each of his seasons of performance. In the city he played for the Fremont City youth team and won the California Championship four times. He studied at the University of San Francisco , in 1986 entered the second composition of the symbolic team of students (All-American) [2] . Member of the University of San Francisco Hall of Fame since 1999.

Player Career

Western Soccer League

In 1987, Doyle began his career for the San Jose Earthquakes club from the Western Soccer League [3] . In 1989-1990, he played for the San Francisco Bay Blackhawks during a break in the college championship, and in 1989 he was in the symbolic team of the Western Soccer League [4]

Europe

In 1990, Doyle joined the Swedish club Ergruet , from where he returned in the summer of 1992 to play for the Blackhawks in six games [5] . In 1993, he played in the Bundesliga for Leipzig [6] , from where the club flew out in the Second Bundesliga following the 1993/94 season .

Return to the USA

After the departure of Leipzig, Doyle returned to the United States, signing a contract with the new MLS Premier League, however, due to the postponement of his inaugural season in 1996, in 1995 he played for Atlanta Rakes from the A-League on loan. The team reached the final match, which they lost to the Seattle Sounders club. Doyle entered the symbolic A-League team and became the best defender of the 1995 season [7] . Before the start of the first season of MLS , following a draft of the right to a player, he acquired the San Jose Cash (since 1999 - the San Jose Earthquakes ), for which until 2000 Doyle played in the future, becoming the first captain of the club. In 1996, Doyle became the best defender of the MLS, scoring 11 times and giving 15 assists.

In national teams

On May 30, 1987, Doyle held the first game for the US team against Canada as part of the qualification for the Olympics . Having lost a week earlier 0: 2, in the first match of Doyle the national team won 3: 0. In Seoul, Doyle played three matches of the Olympic tournament and scored a goal against the USSR (although the United States lost 2-4). This happened in the 86th minute, when Doyle received a pass from Paul Kaliguri and scored a goal, beating the goalkeeper of the Soviet team Dmitry Harin [8] . Doyle played two games for the US national team at the 1990 World Cup [9] , and also won the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 1991 and took 2nd place in 1993 .

After a career

After retiring from football, Doyle commented on the San Jose Earthquakes club radio and television. In 2004, he became an assistant to the club’s head coach Dominic Kinnear , who replaced Frank Yelop , who left for Canada. On October 3, 2007, Doyle became the general manager of Earthquakes and was dismissed on August 29, 2016 [10] . He is currently the director of the Mustang Soccer League coaching school in Danville , California.
