Brussig, Ramona

Ramona Brussig ( German: Ramona Brussig , May 20, 1977 [1] , Leipzig ) is a German Paralympic judoka , two-time champion of the Summer Paralympic Games. The twin sister Carmen Brussig , also a Paralympic judoka [2] .

Broussig was born in Leipzig with visual impairment and competed in the [3] . She began training in 1986 at the age of 9; The first major international debut took place in 1998 at the World Games in Madrid [3] . Despite the fact that her sister lives in Switzerland, they try to use every opportunity to meet and practice together. According to the sisters, there is no competition between them, since they perform in different weight categories [4] .

At her first Paralympic Games in 2004 in Athens , Brussig earned a gold medal in the weight category up to 57 kilograms, defeating the Spanish judoka in the final [5] . Four years later, in Beijing , she received a silver medal, losing to Chinese in the final [6] . By 2012, both Brussig and Van moved into the weight category up to 52 kilograms and met again in the finals of the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London; this time the winner was Ramona [7] . Brussig defended her league title at the 2016 Summer Paralympic Games in Rio, but lost the final to French judoka , again receiving silver [8] .

During her career, Brussig earned four world titles and six European [1] . According to Ramona, her most vivid memory is getting a gold medal in London 15 minutes after her sister’s similar achievement [4] . Both sisters are among the most promising candidates for medals for Germany at the 2020 Summer Paralympic Games , their training receive substantial financial support [9] .

Brussig works in the sports association of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northern Germany [10] .
