Dorothy Karen Mueller ( Dorothy Karen Mueller ), better known as Cookie Müller ( born Cookie Mueller ; March 2, 1949 , Baltimore , Maryland , USA - November 10, 1989 , New York , USA ) is an American actress, writer and journalist [1] .

Biography

Early years

Dorothy Karen Muller was born in a Baltimore suburb near the local psychiatric hospital, forest and railway. Often traveled to the States in childhood, regularly thinking on the road about the beauty of the nature of her country. Cookie wrote down her thoughts, as a result of which, by the age of 11, the girl writes a 321-page story about the flood in Johnstown of 1889 . Muller throws the home-made book into the local library. The turning point in her life is the death of her brother. After which she adjoins a hippie group, while continuing to write. After graduating from school, and having accumulated enough money, she moves to Haight-Ashbury , San Francisco , where she is seriously joining the hippies. In the sixties in the company of friends, hippie vagrants travels a lot around the United States, as well as abroad [1] .

Career

in 1969, she first met with novice director John Waters at the premiere of his film "The Slumpy World " [2] . She later appears as an actress in several of his underground films. After the decline in popularity of this kind of genre, he moved to New York, where he began his career as a journalist and columnist . He writes articles about health for the East Village Eye (the book “Ask Doctor Mueller”, compiled from Müller’s notes, will be published in 1996), and later becomes an art critic in Details [3] . The novella “Fan Mail, Frank Letters, and Crank Calls” and “Garden of Ashes” were included in the collection “ ” [4] .

Death

Muller died of AIDS [5] on November 10, 1989 in New York, at the age of 40 [6] . Her ashes were scattered in several places: on the beach, near Provincetown, in one of the flowerbeds of St. Luke's Church in Greenwich Village , in the South Bronx, on the grave of her dog Beauty, on Mount Corcovado , next to the statue of Christ the Redeemer , and in the holy waters of the Ganges , as well as in the family crypt in Italy.
