Svirina, Evgenia Pavlovna

Evgenia Pavlovna Svirina - Russian mathematician, doctor of physical and mathematical sciences (1979).

Born December 27, 1920 in the village. Oak Chaplyginsky district of the Lipetsk region.

Home front worker, awarded the medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45."

She graduated from the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Gorky State University with a degree in Physics (1944) and graduate school of the Faculty of Physics of Moscow State University (1949, supervisor N.S. Akulov).

Since 1949 he has been working at Moscow State University, since 1961 he has been an assistant professor at the Department of General Physics for the natural faculties of the Faculty of Physics.

Research interests: physical causes of the relationship of the electrical and magnetic properties of magnetic semiconductors (ferrites, manganites).

Results:

• A comprehensive experimental study of kinetic effects (Hall, Nernst - Ettingshausen, magnetoresistance, thermoelectric power, electrical resistance) and the magnetization of single-crystal spinel ferrites in a wide temperature range and in various magnetic fields was carried out. It was concluded that the electrical conductivity in ferrites is of a semiconductor nature and is explained on the basis of band representations taking into account the sd exchange interaction.
• the metal – semiconductor transition and the anomalous behavior of galvanomagnetic and thermomagnetic effects in the region of the Curie temperature were detected.
• found that the 3d electrons of manganites are responsible for the temperature dependence of electrical conductivity and magnetic susceptibility in the paramagnetic region. It was concluded that the manganites studied are magnetic semiconductors with a narrow forbidden band, the magnitude of which is comparable to the 3d exchange interaction.
