Biography

He began military service on December 1, 1791 as a junior lieutenant of the grenadiers of the national battalion of Charente volunteers. On February 25, 1792 he was transferred to the 15th cavalry regiment, and on April 20 of the same year to the 25th dragoon regiment.

In 1792–94 he fought in the ranks of the Northern and Sambro-Maas armies. April 17, 1794 distinguished himself in battle, where at the head of a squadron vigorously attacked the Austrian cavalry regiment, captured two guns and inflicted complete defeat on him.

January 5, 1798 was demobilized. He returned to service in the same regiment on April 20, 1799. Consisted of an internal army, and then served in the Rhine army . On December 2, 1800, he distinguished himself during the capture of the city of Neckergemin, where at the head of several dragoons he captured a grenadier company and delivered it to headquarters.

September 5, 1805 he went on an increase, and was transferred with the rank of captain to the regiment of equestrian grenadiers of the Imperial Guard . He took part in the Austrian campaign of 1805, distinguished himself in the famous attack of the guards cavalry at Austerlitz.

August 21, 1806 promoted to majors, and became deputy commander of the 1st Carabinieri Regiment. May 14, 1807 received the rank of colonel, and headed this regiment. June 14, 1807 was wounded in the battle of Friedland.

He took part in the Austrian campaign of 1809. April 23, wounded by a saber blow to the head in the battle of Regensburg. July 6 lost a horse killed under him at the battle of Wagram.

In the Russian campaign of 1812, he fought as part of the 4th heavy cavalry division of General Defrance . He was wounded in the battle of Borodino, distinguished himself at Vinkovo ​​and Vyazma.

During the Saxon campaign of 1813, he fought at Dresden and Leipzig. September 28, 1813 promoted to brigadier generals. In October, he commanded a brigade in Hanau.

July 23, 1814, after the first restoration of the Bourbons, was appointed commander of the Charente’s native department.

During the "Hundred Days" he was elected May 16, 1815 as the representative of the Chamber of Deputies from Angouleme.

July 5, 1815, after the second abdication of Napoleon , was assigned to the headquarters of the Loire Army, but could not arrive at the location of the unit. After October 11, he led the disbandment of the cavalry corps in La Rochelle .

After completing this difficult mission, on February 1, 1816, Laroche was assigned to the reserve and April 1, 1820 finally retired.
