Biography

Jacques came from a branch of the noble French clan Shatilnonov , who owned the seignoriums of Dampier-sur-Ob , Sompuy and Roliancourt in Champagne .

Jacques was the only son of Hugo de Châtillon (d. 1382/1390), Senor de Dapierre, who held the position of at the French court, and Agnes de Soyencourt (d. After 1390), daughter of Mathieu de Soyencourt, Senor de Céchelle [1] .

Jacques inherited his father's possessions between 1382 and 1390.

In the struggle between the Armagnacs and the burgillions that broke out at the beginning of the XV century, Jacques was a supporter of the Duke of Burgundy, Jean the Fearless , who, after the assassination in 1407 of Louis Orleans, was, until 1413, the de facto ruler of France. In 1408, Jean the Fearless removed the adherent of the Armagnacs, Pierre de Breban , from the post of admiral of France, and in his place he put Jacques de Chatillon on August 23. After the capture of Paris in 1413 by the Armagnacs, they recognized Admiral Pierre de Breban, but the bourguignons recognized Admiral Jacques de Chatillon. The resumption of the war with England in 1415 reconciled the parties briefly.

Jacques de Chatillon died October 25, 1415 at the Battle of Agincourt . He is buried in the .

Jacques's inheritance was inherited by his eldest son, Jacques II , who later held the post of at the French court [1] .

In at the , located on the ground floor of the southern wing of Versailles , there is a bust of Jacques by Eugene-Andre Udine .
