Puyot, Joaquim

Born May 30, 1950 in Alencon ( Department of Orne ). In 1983, he was elected mayor of a small village of Live and held this post for 25 years. Five years later he was first elected to the General Council of the Orne Department from the canton of Alanson-1 , and subsequently re-elected to this body three more times - in 1995, 2002 and 2008.

In 1997, Joaquim Puyot first tried his hand at the elections to the National Assembly , becoming a socialist candidate in the 1st constituency of the Orne department, but lost to the current deputy, Yves Denot. Subsequently, he twice more challenged Denier in the next election, in 2002 and 2007, and lost both times.

In 2008, Joaquim Puyot resigned as mayor of Leave to head the list of socialists in municipal elections in the prefecture of the Orne department of the city of Alencon. His list won in the 1st round with 50.74% of the vote, and he became mayor of Alencon; in 2014, he retained his post following the results of the next municipal elections.

In 2012, the son of his eternal rival, Bernard Denier, became the right-wing candidate for the National Assembly in the 1st constituency of the Department of Orne, and Joaquim Puyot managed to win the mandate of a deputy of the National Assembly on the fourth attempt; in 2017, he retained the deputy’s mandate, defeating his predecessor in the 2nd round of elections as mayor of Alencon, Cristine Rouamier. A month after that, due to the requirements of the law on the inadmissibility of combining mandates, he resigned from the post of mayor of Alencon.

In November 2007, while still mayor of Livé, Joaquim Puyot was appointed director of the prison in the village of Fleury-Merogis in the Eson department for one year. In 2013, he published the book Men and Walls (Des hommes et des murs), in which he described his experiences with prison management.
