Hockey with a ball

The first world hockey championship was held in 1957 in Finland . When organizing the world championships, they were supposed to be held once every four years, but since the second championship in 1961 in Norway it was held once every two years, and since the 2003 championship in Russia the tournament has become an annual event. The last world championship was held in 2019 in the Swedish city of Venersborg .

Only three teams participated in the first world championship - the USSR , Sweden and Finland . Starting from the second championship, the Norwegian team joined them, then (see the table below) - the teams of the USA , Canada , the Netherlands , Hungary , Kazakhstan , Belarus , Estonia , Mongolia , Latvia , Japan , Kyrgyzstan , Ukraine , Germany , Somalia , China , Czech Republic , Slovakia , Great Britain and Switzerland . In total, the national championships involved 23 of the 28 members of the International Ice Hockey Federation. 5 teams: Afghanistan, Armenia, India, Lithuania and Colombia - did not take part in any championship. A record number of national teams (20) took part in the 2019 World Cup.

Considering the small number of countries where regular ball hockey games are held, almost any national team that has applied for participation in the tournament is currently participating in the World Championships. In the championship, teams are divided into two groups: group A, which includes the strongest teams (starting from the 2014 World Cup, group 8 includes 8 teams), and group B, which includes the rest, was also group C at the 2012 world championship. Only the teams from group A enter the final part of the tournament. The best team of group B replaces the outsider of group A in the next tournament.
