Content
History
The party was founded in January 2013 as a coalition of opposition to the course of President Santos and the Social Party of National Unity . The main factor criticizing the government was negotiations with the FARC , the main left-wing anti-government guerrilla force in the Colombian Civil War [3] .
Although the party was created as a right-wing party, it included former politicians of both the right-wing Conservative Party and the centrist Social Party of National Unity and the left-wing Alternative Democratic Pole [4] .
Election Participation
In the 2014 parliamentary elections, the party won 20 seats in the Senate and 19 seats in the House of Representatives. In the same year, in the presidential election, Oscar candidate Ivan Suluaga won first place in the first round with 29% of the vote, but lost to Santos in the 2nd round, receiving 45% [5] [6] . After that, the party became the main opposition force in Colombia.
In 2018, after the parliamentary elections, the party won 19 seats in the Senate and 32 seats in the House of Representatives. Party presidential candidate Ivan Duke Marquez received 39% of the vote in the 1st round during the 2018 presidential election .
