Baltic News Service ( BNS ) is a large news agency operating in the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania). The agency was founded in April 1990 by a group of MSU students (founder - Allan Martinson ). The Agency distributed among foreign correspondents in Moscow information about events in the Baltic countries' struggle for independence from the Soviet Union . For several months, it has been recognized by numerous Western media sources .

Today BNS is a holding uniting independent agencies in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
BNS distributes news in Russian and English (as well as in the internal languages of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania) via the Internet , as well as in other ways. Subscribers include the media, financial, industrial and government institutions in the Baltic countries. BNS also collaborates with Agence France-Presse , Reuters and Interfax .
From 2001, BNS was wholly owned by the Finnish media group Alma Media [1] until March 2014 , when it was sold to an Estonian company, which also owns Sky Plus and the Russian-language SKY Radio . [2]
In 2003, the Estonian news agency BNS joined the bankrupt news agency ETA (Eesti Teadeteagentuur). [3] [4]
