Biography
Josette Fioroni was born December 24, 1932 in a family of artists. The artist's father was a sculptor, and his mother a puppeteer. From childhood, Josette was surrounded by art, theater, cinema, books and of course painting.
The beginning of the 60s was marked by the triumphant participation of Fioroni in 1964 in the 32nd Venice Biennale or the “Biennale of Pop”, where the direction later called the Roman Pop Art appeared, the protagonist of which she immediately became along with Franco Angeli, Tano Festa, Titina Mazelli, Mario Shifano The “thundered” works at the Biennale, which became part of the exposition at MMOMA, using comic storytelling techniques, borrowed photographs, flattened and simplified figures — techniques that later will be met by Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein , describe a modern dynamic society with its characteristic clip consciousness . The silver “non-color” that is distinctive for these years, as the artist herself describes it, is another repetition: the artist tautologically paints silver images originally shown by the silver-gelatin process. The key to understanding the visual language of “pop” Fioroni, according to curators Marco Menegutstso and Piero Mashitti, is the abstract paintings of the late 50s, testifying to the influence of Twombly and Robert Motherwell and which, in addition to “flatness”, are subsequently “proprietary” to Fioroni, conciseness and spontaneity of the method. In the wake of increasing social tension, Fioroni turns to political topics and the problems of personality formation, introducing photographs of his childhood into the Mussolini regime. At the same time, Fioroni is expanding his formal tools by experimenting with theater, cinema and installation. [3]
1969 Fioroni, who loved Russian literature, visited Moscow.
Creativity
The history of the work of Josette Fioroni tells the stories of worlds (social and fairy-tale), peoples and civilizations. Throughout her career, one can observe children's emotional tonality. And it is she who separates her from American Pop Art . What is real for Warhol is just a staging for Fioroni, a performance with which is a friendly relationship.
