Content
History
The settlement, from which the city later grew, was founded on December 8, 1510 [1] .
Geographical position
The city is located in the northern part of the department, within the Caribbean lowland , at a distance of about 7 kilometers southeast of the city of Cartagena , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 252 meters above sea level [2] . The municipality of Turbaco borders in the north with the territory of the municipality of Santa Rosa , in the northeast - with the municipality of Villanueva , in the east - with the municipality of San Estanislao , in the southeast - with the municipality of Archona , in the south-west - with the municipality of Turbana , in the west - with the municipality of Cartagena. The area of the municipality is 176 km² [1] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2015 was 72,168 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 49.7% of the population of Turbaco, women - 50.3%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 79.1% of the city's population; blacks , mulattoes and Raisals - 20.8%; Indians - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 89.4%.
Economics
61.1% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 29.9% are service enterprises, 8.5% are industrial enterprises, 0.5% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
Transport
National Highway 90 passes through the city ( Spanish: Ruta Nacional 90 ).
