An interesting family chronicle of the last tragic years of World War II in Japan, observing the unity of action. Although ideas and political concepts clash in the film, Kinoshita is primarily interested in the behavior of the characters. Most of the story is shot with close plans, and the camera captures the smallest physical reactions of the characters to the events. For Kinoshita, major social upheaval is read primarily on people's faces. That is why it does not seem strange to us that immediately before this film the director managed to shoot a picture with a completely opposite ideology ( Army , Rikugun, 1944). As much as militarism is extolled in this film, so much is it ridiculed in the Osone Family Morning .
