Raul Romeva lived in Madrid until the age of 9, then his family moved to Caldes de Montbuy , where Romeva lived until the age of 22. He worked as a teacher at his native university, taught international relations .

Raul Romeva worked as an analyst in the field of military conflicts and post-war reconstruction at the UNESCO Center in Catalonia, the public organization Intermón Oxfam and the School of Peace Culture of the Barcelona Autonomous University, and was also a consultant to the UN . In 1995-1996, Romeva was responsible for the UNESCO educational program in Bosnia and Herzegovina , where in 1996-1997 he also served as the observer for the OSCE elections. The activities of Romeva in the field of ecology were associated with organizations such as Greenpeace , he was mainly involved in the protection of the underwater world.

Romeva is a member of the Catalonia-Greens Initiative; in 2004, he was elected to the European Parliament from the United Left list. Raul Romeva was a member of the Greens - European Free Alliance parliamentary group. In the European Parliament, Romeva prepared reports on the international arms trade, criticized the role of some European Union states in this area. Since September 7, 2017, Raul Romeva has been under investigation by the Supreme Court of Catalonia on charges of abuse of power, disobedience to the decision of the Constitutional Court and misuse of public funds: Romeva, among other members of the autonomous government, signed a decree calling for an illegal referendum on self-determination of Catalonia . On October 28, 2017, after the central government of Spain applied 155 articles of the Constitution of Spain, Romeva was removed from his post as adviser to the Government of Catalonia. On November 2, 2017, Raul Romeva, together with Oriol ункunkeras and other seven government advisers to Carles Puigdemon , was imprisoned by decision of Judge Carmen Lamela . He was released on bail, but on March 23 by the decision of Judge Pablo Llaren, he was again imprisoned in Estremere without the right to bail.
