Career
Threacherous Three
In the late 70s, while studying in high school, Kool Moe Dee met at a party with Special K and DJ Easy Lee . Soon, together they form a hip-hop “old school” rap group called . It was in its composition that Kool Moe Dee issued his freestyle, which will then be called the turning point in the development of rap battles, during one of the rap battles that Busy Bee Starski held .
Treacherous Three debuted in 1980 with the song “The New Rap Language,” which was recorded on . From 1980 to 1981, before signing to , they released two more singles, “Body Rock” and “Feel the Heartbeat”. Sugar Hill Records The Treacherous Three recorded a few more singles, but in the mid-1980s the band split up.
After Threacherous Three
Instead of, after the breakup of the group, to engage in the development of his solo career, Kool Moe Dee goes to college, where he receives a degree in public relations. After that, he signs a contract with an unknown producer to record his debut solo single, “Go See the Doctor ” .
In 1986, Kool Moe Dee signed a contract with Jive Records and released his debut solo album . At the same time, he begins a protracted feud with the young rapper LL Cool J , accusing him of stealing his original rap style.
In 1987, Kool Moe Dee released the album , featuring a Kangol hat (brand owned by the rapper LL Cool J), rumpled by a jeep wheel. The album goes platinum . Two years later, Kool Moe Dee reiterates its success by releasing the Knowledge Is King album, which goes gold , and Dee becomes the first rapper to perform at the Grammy Awards .
In 1990, Kool Moe Dee took Quincy Jones back on the Block along with fellow rappers Melle Mel, Big Daddy Kane and Ice-T . The album was approved by both critics and listeners, winning the Grammy Award for 1991 Best Album . In the same 1991, Kool Moe Dee, along with Quincy Jones , Big Daddy Kane , Ice-T , Melle Mal and Quincy Jones III was awarded a Grammy in the nomination "Best rap performance by a duet or band . "
The fourth album, " ", turned out to be weaker compared to earlier released works and brought only disappointment to its fans. And after the release of the collection of hits in 1993, the Jive / RCA label generally terminated the contract with Kool Moe Dee.
Caught on the rocks, Kool Moe Dee, however, reissued three albums by Treacherous Three, in 1994 signing a contract with DJ Easy Lee's label.
Kool Moe Dee also appears in 1999, collaborating with rapper and actor Will Smith in the recording of his song .
Microphone God
