Biography
Abdul Razak Alhassan was born on August 11, 1985 in Accra , Ghana . For many years he practiced judo , having been awarded the black belt in this discipline, then decided to become a fighter of MMA [1] .
Beginning of a professional career
He made his debut in professional mixed martial arts in November 2013 at the Xtreme Knockout tournament in the United States, sent his opponent knocked out in 25 seconds. Then he signed a contract with the major American promotion Bellator , where in total he won two victories. He performed, among other things, at the Legacy Fighting Championship , where he was also the winner. He performed both in the middle and welterweight categories.
Ultimate Fighting Championship
With six victories in his track record and not a single defeat, Alhassan attracted the attention of the world's largest fighting organization Ultimate Fighting Championship and in 2016 signed a long-term contract with it. Soon he made his debut here safely - in 53 seconds he knocked out the Irishman Charlie Ward and thereby earned a bonus for the best performance of the evening [2] [3] .
In May 2017, at the UFC tournament in Sweden, he met with Russian Omari Akhmedov and, following the results of three rounds, lost to him by a separate decision of the judges, thus having suffered the first defeat in his professional career [4] .
His next rival was Lebanese-American Sabah Homashi . Alhassan won by TKO, although the victory was controversial - it was noted that the referee Herb Dean stopped the match prematurely [5] .
To dot all the “i”, in January 2018, a rematch was organized between Alhassan and Khomashi - this time the Ghanaian fighter knocked out his opponent for sure, having received an award for the best performance of the evening [6] .
In April 2018, a fight was planned with Russian Muslim Salikhov , but due to an injury, Alhassan was forced to withdraw from this tournament [7] .
