Biology
It gives two generations per year: the flight time of the first is May - June, of the second - July - August. The caterpillar has an eye-like pattern, like that of the average wine barrag, but the 2nd eye-spot is much smaller than the front. The caterpillar horn at the end of the body is atrophied [1] . Caterpillars feed on flowers and buds of fodder plants of the genus Galium and Epilobium at night. In danger, the caterpillar inflates the ocular segment of the body; if this does not help, it mimics death. A chrysalis overwinter.
