Ierisos [3] [4] , Ieriss [5] ( Greek Ιερισσός [2] ) is a small town in Greece . Located at an altitude of 10 meters above sea level [1] , on the coast of the bay of the same name, on the isthmus between the peninsulas of Ayon Oros and Halkidiki , 37 kilometers east of Poliyiros , 83 kilometers southeast of Thessaloniki and 269 kilometers to north of athens . It is the administrative center of the community (Dima) Aristotelis in the peripheral unit of Chalkidiki in the periphery of Central Macedonia . The population is 3,266 according to the 2011 census [2] .

History
Akanf was founded by the Androsians in the middle of the 7th century BC. er [6] [7] [8] [9] The city was plundered by the Romans around 200 BC. e., but the port continued to work. During the period of the Roman Empire, the city became a Roman province (convention of Roman citizens, conventus Syracusanus ) [10] [11]
Ierisos was first mentioned as Erisos ( Ερισός ) in 883 [5] . In the summer of 1425, the city fell under the rule of the Ottoman Empire . The economic rise in the XVIII century is associated with the resumption of silver mining at the Sidirokafsia mine [12] . He entered the union of 12 villages, called the "Union of Ore" ( "Κοινόν του Μαδεμίου" ) or Mandemohoria ( Μαντεμο α ) from μαντέμι " ore " from the tour. maden . The union included Galatista , Vavdos , Ravna , Stavros , Barbara , Liarigovi , Neochorion , Kazandzi-Mahalas , Izvoron , Horuda , Revenikia and Ierisos [13] . In 1932, as a result of a strong earthquake, the settlement was destroyed. The new city was built not far from the former place [14] , as it turned out during excavations at the site of the Akanfa cemetery [15] .
The Kruna Byzantine Tower ( Πύργος της Κρούνας ) with a height of 13.5 meters and the fortification of the monastery of Hilandar [16] have been preserved.
Community Yerisos
The community was created in 1918 ( ΦΕΚ 152Α ) [17] . The community of Ierysos consists of six settlements. The population is 3,455 inhabitants at the 2011 census [2] . The area is 52,605 square kilometers [1] .
