History
It was formed on the basis of the 75th fortified area on the basis of the order of the Supreme Commander of the 60th Army No. 0046 dated October 3, 1942. At the end of December 1942 it joined the 40th Army to participate in the Ostrogozh-Rossoshansk operation. [one]
The 305th Infantry Division adopted baptism of fire in the Ostrogozh-Rossoshanskoy operation . During it, the 305th SD under the command of Colonel Ivan Antonovich Danilovich liberated the Krasnensky district of the Belgorod region . The offensive began on January 17, 1943. On January 18, enemy forces in the area of ββthe village of Podserednoe were surrounded. During the offensive, the division suffered significant losses - the 1002nd Infantry Regiment almost disappeared. [2]
In the spring and summer of 1943, the division was engaged in the preparation of defensive lines on the line of the Voronezh Front . The soldiers dug dugouts, trenches, bunkers. The 305th division took part in the battle of Kursk. Before the battle began, by July 9, the 305th regiment occupied defensive lines near the settlements east of the city of Belgorod: Sabynino , Shlyakhovo , Melikhovo , Mazikino , Sheino and Ushakovo . [1] The 305th SD was on the cutting edge of the 3rd Tank Corps of the Wehrmacht near the village of Melikhovo, together with the 9th Guards Rifle Division . Unable to withstand the blow, parts of the divisions withdrew. [3]
On July 17, fighters captured a height of 231.5 in the Yakovlevsky District. On July 20, the village of Aleksandrovka was liberated. [one]
On August 3, 1943, the 305th Infantry Division took part in the Belgorod-Kharkov offensive operation . The division was tasked with occupying the village of Arkhangelskoye and entering the outskirts of Belgorod, and then cutting off the enemyβs retreat to the south and west. On August 5, the division entered the city with fighting. 305th SD, along with the fighters of the 94th Guards. SD , 375th SD , 270th Guards. joint venture 89th guards. The SD got involved in city ββbattles on the streets of Belgorod while parts of the 1st mechanized corps surrounded the city from the west. August 5, 1943 the city was taken. For the liberation of the city, the 305th SD was given the honorary name " Belgorod ". [one]
Later, from August 20 to August 31, 1943, the 305th Infantry Division under the command of Colonel Alexander Fedorovich Vasiliev continued fighting in the vicinity of the villages of Buda , Guka (now the quarter of Kharkov), Korotich in the Kharkov region [3] .
