He studied with his father, from the age of four at home, then at the Hague Conservatory . At the age of ten, he made his public debut, performing one of Bernhard Romberg 's concerts. Later, having received a royal scholarship, he improved his skills in Dresden with Friedrich Grützmacher and in Paris with Leon Jacquard . After a tour of Denmark, Sweden and Norway, he returned to the Netherlands and played in one of the Amsterdam orchestras for a year.
In 1878 he moved to the United States, having settled in Boston, initially as a member of the Mendelssohn quintet. As part of this collective, he toured the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Then, for some time, singer Christina Nilson accompanied on a concert tour. In 1884 he entered the original composition of the Boston Symphony Orchestra , and a year later also the original composition of the Kneisel Quartet . In 1889, Mr .. left Boston, taught at the National Conservatory of America in New York .
