The Malawi Congress Party (PCM) is the Malawian political party [1] . It is the successor to the banned African Nyasaland Congress Party, which existed when Malawi was under British control and was known as Nyasaland . The Hastings Banda became the leader of the PCM after Malawi gained independence in 1964 , and from 1966 to 1993 the party was the only legitimate party in the country under an authoritarian regime. In the elections in 2009, the party won about 30.5% of the vote, in 2014 - 27.8%.

History
The Malawi Congress Party is the successor to the Nyasaland African Congress banned in 1959 . PKM was founded in 1959 by Orton Chirva , the first African barrister Nyasaland , shortly after his release from prison, and other leaders, such as Aleke Banda and S. Kamvendo, together with Hastings Banda, who was still in prison at that time.
It has been an opposition party since 1994 . He has the most support in the Central region , inhabited by the Nyanja peoples.
In the May 2009 election, party representative John Tembo won 30% of the vote and the party won 26 of 193 seats in parliament.
