Biography
Friedrich Eduard Ewald Sachsenberg was born into the family of engineer Georg Sachsenberg. From 1900 to 1904, Ewald studied at the Technical University of Berlin in Charlottenburg . He then worked as a design engineer at the Germaniawerft shipyard in Kiel . In 1907, he received a Ph.D. in Berlin. Over the next 16 years, Sachsenberg worked for various companies: including Sachsenberg AG in Cologne , R. Frister AG ”and“ Reichstreuhandgesellschaft AG ”in Berlin. In 1920, he became a doctor of sciences, and began working as a privat-docent on the organization of shipyards. In addition, he was editor of Der Schiffbau magazine.
In 1921, Sachsenberg became a professor at the University of Dresden: later he also became dean of the Faculty of Mechanics. After the National Socialists came to power, Sachsenberg soon came into conflict with the new authorities, but on November 11, 1933, he was among the more than 900 scholars and professors at German universities and universities who signed the " Declaration of Professors Supporting Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist State ." Ewald Sachsenberg died in Berlin in 1946 after a serious illness.

In 1996, the Technical University of Dresden named after Ewald Sachsenberg one of its buildings, previously bearing the name of Franz Karl Kutzbach (Kutzbach-Bau).
