Description

The monument is similar to the famous Pillar of Alexandria , standing on the Palace Square in St. Petersburg [3] . It is a high column of red polished granite . The column is crowned with a bronze Doric capitol , on which stands a bronze sculpture of St. George the Victorious , a serpent piercing with a spear. At the base of the column is a granite pedestal, on each of whose four faces there are bronze bas-reliefs [4] .

On the bas-relief of “ Pieta ” on the obverse side, there is a grieving mother holding a dead son in her arms. Around are the warriors. Above, on the front of the column, there is an inscription in overhead bronze letters “ Grateful Russia to soldiers of law and order who died in the line of duty ” [4] .

According to the sculptor A. A. Bichukov, by this monument he wanted to convey the idea that " Russia is sovereign and great, is and will be " [3] . The monument served as a prototype for the prize of the Moscow International Film Festival [5] .

Every year, on November 10, flowers are laid at the monument on the day of an employee of the internal affairs bodies .
