Shumovska herself described her creation in this way: “The“ face ”is a metaphor for what is currently happening in Poland: fear of a stranger” [6] .

Reviews

“Something in the picture is catchy. Perhaps this is some kind of elusive nerve characteristic of Lars von Trier’s tapes, with which Shumovska worked at one time, or maybe it’s all about the natural tendency to look at something repulsive, especially knowing that it can’t harm you. ”

Evgeny Ukhov, Empire magazine [7]

Egor Sennikov from Session magazine gave a positive assessment and wrote that “the Shumovskaya film crosses national borders: this could easily happen in the Russian, Danish or American outback” [8] .

Ksenia Ilyina from the newspaper " Interlocutor " noted that the director "finds the right balance, speaking about the problems of modern Poland so that they can be heard: bringing them to the point of absurdity" [9] .

Peter Bradshaw, a British magazine reviewer for The Guardian , wrote that “The Face” “combines sound realism and fantasy comedy,” and also called it “a humble and unusually touching drama.” [10]

Deborah Young from the American magazine “ The Hollywood Reporter ” also spoke positively about the film and defined its genre as an art-house tragicomedy [11] .

Jessica Kiang from Variety magazine dubbed the film “A Fable of Facial Deformation, which Reveals the Pettiness and Hypocrisy of Provincial Poland” [12] .
