Biography
Johannes Erwin Papperitz was born May 17, 1857 in Dresden in the family of a landscape painter Gustav Friedrich Papperitz (Gustav Friedrich Papperitz, 1813-1861) and his wife Marie Elizabeth (nee Conradi). From 1875 to 1882, Erwin studied at the universities of Leipzig (part of the student brotherhood Alte Leipziger Landsmannschaft Afrania) and Munich - among his teachers was Felix Klein . In 1883, Papperitz became a candidate of science at the University of Leipzig. In 1886, at the Dresden Technical University, he defended his doctoral dissertation in TFKP and, three years later, was appointed extraordinary professor.
In 1890, Erwin Papperitz was one of the founding members of the German Mathematical Society ; He was elected to Leopoldina in 1910. In 1892 he received the position of professor of higher mathematics and descriptive geometry at the Freiberg Mining Academy: three times - from 1901 to 1903, from 1905 to 1907 and from 1923 to 1924 - Papperitz served as rector. In Freiberg Papperitz devoted a lot of time to descriptive geometry and in 1909 wrote an article called “Descriptive Geometry” (Darstellende Geometrie) in the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences (Encyklopädie der mathematischen Wissenschaften mit Einschluß ihrer Anwendungen). In 1927 he retired - his successor was Friedrich Adolf Willers (Friedrich Adolf Willers, 1883-1959). On November 11, 1933, Papperitz was among more than 900 scholars and professors from German universities and universities who signed the " Statement of Professors Supporting Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist State ." He died in 1938 in Bad Kissingen .
