177P / Barnard

177P / Barnard ( born 177P / Barnard ), Barnard 2 is a periodic comet with a circulation period of 119 years. The comet fits the definition of comets such as Halley's comet with periods of revolution from 20 years to 200 years. [2]

physical characteristics

The comet, also designated P / 2006 M3 , was discovered by Edward Barnard on June 24, 1889, and after 116 years the comet was rediscovered. [3] On July 19, 2006, the comet approached a distance of 0.36 AU to the earth. [4] From the end of July to the end of September 2006, the comet was brighter than 8 visible magnitudes and was in the constellation Hercules , and then Dragon . The passage of perihelion took place on August 28, 2006.

Of the other two periodic comets of Barnard, the first D / 1884 O1 (Barnard 1) was last observed on November 20, 1884, and is believed to have collapsed. The second, comet, 206P / Barnard - Boattini marked the beginning of a new era in the study of comets, as it was the first comet discovered in a photographic image. After 1892, she was considered lost, but on October 7, 2008, Andrea Boattini was reopened.
