Biography and career
Born in Rome on September 23, 1954, in the family of mathematician and teacher Lucio Lombardo Radice [1] . The older brother is a psychiatrist and writer Marco Radiche, a grandfather is a famous politician Pietro Ingrao . As a child, Giovanni dreamed of becoming a ballet dancer and even studied at the school of ballroom dancing in Amsterdam , but because of a back injury he had to give up his studies. At the ballet school there was also a school of physiotherapy , which the future actor began to attend and received a degree in this field [2] .
In the mid-70s, Giovanni Lombardo Radice became a prominent figure in the Italian theatrical avant-garde , participated in numerous (including underground) performances and was popular among rebellious youth [3] . Sometimes he himself staged performances as a director [4] , his first production was Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream [2] .
The most famous Giovanni gained through negative roles in Italian horror films , and in particular the participation in the shocking scenes of death, in which his characters were sometimes the victims [5] [6] . This glory brought the actor a lot of inconvenience. In an interview Radic admitted that it would be better if he never played Mike Logan in the film “ Cannibals ”. When his family found out that Giovanni was using the generic name Lombardo Radice for filming incredibly cruel horror films, she broke off all ties with him. The actor began to use the pseudonym John Morgen, which he created by anglicizing his name and taking his grandmother 's maiden name .
In 1980, in one of his first films, he played an ambiguous character, the homeless crazy Ricky in the film Rugger Deodato's “ House on the Edge of the Park ”. Creating the image of his hero, Radice used the experience from his youth when he ran away from home and he had to live on the street [7] . In 1984 he played the main role of the Soviet poet Vladimir Mayakovsky in the television film “ Mayakovsky ”.
From 1991 to 1996 he was the screenwriter for the television series “Boys near the Wall” ( Italian. I ragazzi del muretto ) [8] .
February 27, 2011 it became known that Rudzhero Deodato will remove the thriller “The House on the Edge of Park 2”, the continuation of the original film of 1980, and Giovanni Lombardo Radiche will return to the role of Ricky [9]
In March 2017, Lombardo Radice visited the Russian film festival “The Drop ” [10] [11] .
Personal Life
In 1989, he married actress Alessandra Panelli ( Italian: Alessandra Panelli ), the couple have one child - the son of Giacomo.
In the 80s, Giovanni Lombardo Radiche met and became friends with Marcello Mastroianni , with whom they starred in a movie; Mastroyanni was even acquainted with the father-in-law Radiche, Paolo Panelli, and was present at his wedding [7] .
In 2017, the actor wrote an autobiographical book, "A Zombie's Life: Italy's Whipping Boy Talks Life and Career." In it, he told many details of his life, in particular, about the start of an acting career and performances in the theater, about the partners in the shooting, his bisexuality and drug taking [12] .
