The group was founded in the early 1980s and released their first four studio albums on their own label Metal Magic Records. These albums were not very successful ^[1] . The breakthrough for the group was the Cowboys from Hell debut on a major label , released in 1990 , which later received platinum status from the American Association of Recording Companies ^[2] . Cowboys from Hell: The Videos, released next year, is in included video clips from Cowboys from Hell , in the USA he was assigned a gold status ^[2] .

The next album, also released on a major label, Vulgar Display of Power was released in 1992 and took 44th place on the Billboard 200 ^[3] , later becoming twice platinum in the US ^[4] and once in Australia ^[5] . Singles " Mouth for War " "And" Walk "were accompanied by video clips, in 1993 included in the video album Vulgar Video , which, like the previous album, received platinum status in the USA ^[6] . After a two-year tour, the group released the album Far Beyond Driven ( 1994 ) ^[1] , which debuted at the top of the American Billboard 200 chart ^[3] and the Australian ARIA Charts ^[7] , and entered the top three charts of Sweden ^[8] and Great Britain ^{[9] ]} , later receiving platinum status in the United States ^[10] and Canada ^[11] . In 1997, Pantera's only live album, Official Live: 101 Proof , reached the top 20 in four countries and received gold status in the United States ^[15] . In the same year, the group released the 3 Watch It Go video album , which included videos for all the singles from Far Beyond Driven and a clip for the song “Drag the Waters” from The Great Southern Trendkill . 3 Watch It Go received platinum status in the United States ^[16] . Pantera's next video album is 3 Vulgar Videos from Hell - Released in 1999 and became platinum in the United States ^[17] and Australia ^[18] . In 2000, the band released their last studio album, Reinventing the Steel , which finished fourth in the American Billboard 200 ^[3] , second in the Australian ARIA chart ^[7] and third in Finland ^[12] . In 2003, The Best of Pantera: Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys' Vulgar Hits! , which contained songs from the group's albums, released on major labels. The collection took 38th place in the Billboard 200 ^[3] and later received platinum status in the USA ^[19] . In the same year, Pantera broke up, and its members formed the groups Hellyeah , Damageplan , Down and Superjoint Ritual .
