The city was one of the first in the district in which electricity was supplied, but the decline in the woodworking industry in the region slowed down the development of the region in the first half of the 20th century. In the 1950s, oil was discovered in the region, and the settlement was able to renew outdated communications and roads. In the 1960s, the Kountze News newspaper gained fame, advocating for the creation of the Big Thicket nature reserve near Kunz [3] .
