Royal arsenal

Royal Arsenal ( Polish: Arsenał Królewski we Lwowie ) - a fortification in Lviv ( Ukraine ). Located on the street. Basement 13.

It was built by order of King Vladislav IV and served as a repository of the city’s stock of weapons before the impending war. Like the city, the royal arsenal is built between the city walls. It was built by fortification engineer P. Grodzitsky from 1639 . In 1646, the arsenal was completed along with workshops in which various weapons and bells were cast. The facade of the building was decorated with a bronze sculptural composition cast in 1639 by the foundry worker Frank Caspar; Now it is stored in the Lviv Historical Museum .

The building is made of stone, rectangular in plan, with two L-shaped wings connected by a wall; these walls on the east side enclose a patio. The facade overlooking the square is decorated with a loggia and a baroque pediment. On the side facade of the east wing, a carved stone portal in renaissance forms has been preserved.

In 1939, the building of the Royal Arsenal housed the Lviv Historical Archive.
