Biography

Brian Ebersole was born November 27, 1980 in the city of La Porte , Indiana , USA . He spent his childhood in the town of Bradley, Illinois , where from a young age he was engaged in wrestling in the hall of his grandfather. He was a member of wrestling teams while studying in high and high schools, then he entered the University of East Illinois - he trained here with the famous fighter Matt Hughes , who introduced him to mixed martial arts. He was expelled from the wrestling team for a fight, lost a scholarship and therefore dropped out of school [1] .

Beginning of a professional career

He made his debut in mixed martial arts on a professional level in February 2000, lost his first fight, but despite the defeat he continued to actively play in MMA. At the same time as a sports career, he worked at a construction site, and also worked as a bartender in a pub from time to time.

With varying success, he fought in small American and Mexican promotions, went to the cage relatively often, for example, during 2002 alone he had 15 professional fights, 13 of which he won. He defeated such famous fighters as Eddie Sanchez , Shannon Ritch , Emanuel Newton , Alexey Veselovzorov , Alex Serdyukov , Matt Horwich and others.

In the period 2006-2011 he performed mainly in Australia, won the title of champion of the Australian promotion Cage Fighting Championships in the welterweight category. Such a long departure from the United States was caused by two disqualifications imposed on him by the California Athletic Commission, in particular, he was convicted of using marijuana [2] .

Ultimate Fighting Championship

With a record of 47 wins and 14 losses, Ebersoul attracted the attention of the largest fighting organization in the world Ultimate Fighting Championship and in 2011 signed a long-term contract with it. He made his debut in the UFC octagon in a duel against Chris Lightle , replacing the injured Carlos Condit , won by unanimous decision and earned a bonus for the best performance of the evening [3] . Later he defeated such fighters as Dennis Hallman , Claude Patrick and TJ Waldberger [4] .

His impressive series of eleven consecutive victories was interrupted only in July 2012 after a meeting with James Head , who in a close confrontation defeated him by a separate referee's decision.

In November 2013, by unanimous decision, he lost to Rick Storey .

In September 2014, he defeated John Howard by a separate decision [5] .

The last time he fought in the UFC cage in June 2015 - in the first round of the match with Russian Omari Akhmedov, as a result of a missed low-kick, he suffered a knee injury and was forced to refuse to continue the fight. Immediately after this defeat, he announced the end of his sports career [6] .

Hex Fight Series

Despite the end of his career, in June 2016, Ebersoul still performed once more in MMA at the tournament of the small organization Hex Fight Series. In the fight for the welterweight title, he went the distance of five rounds, while the judges unanimously decided to defeat his rival Stephen Kennedy. At the end of the fight, both fighters announced the final completion of their careers.
