Damanhur ( Arabic. دمنهور , Copt . Ϯ ⲙⲓⲛ ϩ ⲱⲣ, Dimenhor, "Settlement of the Mountain ") is a city in Lower Egypt , the administrative center of the province (governorate) of Buheira .

Geography
It is located 160 km northwest of Cairo and 70 km southeast of Alexandria , in the western part of the Nile Delta , at an altitude of 18 m above sea level [1] . Geographic coordinates:
History
In ancient Egypt, the city, known since pre-dynastic times, was the capital of 7 nomes of Lower Egypt . It is considered the first city in the world in which coins began to be minted . The city stood on the banks of the canal connecting Lake Maryut with the westernmost arm of the Nile [2] . The city was dedicated to the ancient Egyptian god Horus .
In Greek and Roman times, the city was called Hermopolis Mikra or Hermopolis Parva , which also gave him an association with Hermes , identified with the Egyptian god Thoth . In Russian historiography, the name Yermopol the Small is found [3] .
In ancient times, the city attracted the attention of various ancient geographers , including Stephen of the Byzantine , Strabo (xvii. P. 802) and Ptolemy (iv. 5. § 46).

According to 2006 data, the population of Damanhur is about 241,895 inhabitants.
Economics
Thanks to the developed agriculture in the province of Buheira, Damanhur has developed industries related to agriculture: peeling cotton , processing potatoes , picking dates . Transport node. Textile, oil mills. Carpet weaving. A large market for cotton and rice.
