Biography

Theodore Martin Klimmer studied at the Dresden gymnasium "Kreuzschule"; After graduating from high school, he studied veterinary medicine at the Higher School of Veterinary Medicine in Dresden (Tierärztliche Hochschule Dresden), where he received a medical license in 1895. Then he moved to Bern , where in 1897 he defended his thesis on "Is sugar a normal part of the urine of domestic animals?" From 1898, Klimmer was an extraordinary professor of biochemistry at the Higher School of Veterinary Medicine, and from 1902 to 1923 he was a full professor of hygiene, bacteriology and infectious diseases of animals. Then, from 1923 to 1938, he was a professor at the University of Leipzig. On November 11, 1933, Martin Klimmer was among the more than 900 scholars and professors at German universities and universities who signed the " Statement of Professors Supporting Adolf Hitler and the National Socialist State ."

Klimmer defended another dissertation - became a candidate of veterinary sciences; his specialization was the transmission of animal diseases to humans. Engaged in research on vaccines, worked closely with their manufacturers. In 1938, Adolf Meyn became his scientific successor (Adolf Meyn, 1898-1962). Klimmer was also actively involved in mountaineering.
