Monument to the Heroes of the First World War (Krasnodar)

The monument “To the Glorious Sons of the Fatherland Cossacks and Highlanders - Heroes of the First World War” was unveiled in Krasnodar on July 28 near house 198 on Krasnaya Street on Alexandrovsky Boulevard.

During the First World War , about 100 thousand Kuban Cossacks were called to the front. The Highlanders, who were not subject to draft, volunteered to the front line. Cossacks and highlanders defended one homeland. A monument was erected in memory of the heroes of the First World War of different peoples in Krasnodar.

The sculptures of the monument depict a Cossack and a mountaineer standing on a low marble pedestal. On the front of the pedestal there is an inscription: “To the glorious sons of the Fatherland, Cossacks and highlanders - heroes of the First World War (07/28/1914 - 11/11/1918)." The cost of the construction of the monument amounted to 9.3 million rubles. This money was collected by residents of the city, deputies of the local parliament, workers of Krasnodar enterprises, and Cossacks.

The monument has a height of 2.4 meters, the Cossack and the mountaineer are dressed in national costumes with hats, sabers and daggers. On the chest of the heroes are St. George's crosses. The authors of the monument are Kuban sculptors Alan Kornaev and Valery Pchelin.

Representatives of the Cossacks and mountain peoples attended the opening of the monument. Among them: the chieftain of the Kuban Cossack army Nikolai Dopuda, the head of the republic of Adygea Aslan Kitovich Tkhakushinov , the presidential envoy to the Southern Federal District for Adygea Adam Tleuzh, the governor Veniamin Kondratyev and others.
