Susanna Mälkki ( Fin. Susanna Mälkki ; born March 13, 1969 , Helsinki , Finland ) is a Finnish conductor who was awarded the country's highest award for artists - the Pro Finlandia medal (2011).

Biography and Creativity
Born March 13, 1969 in Helsinki.
She studied playing the cello at the Sibelius Academy , then at the Royal Royal Academy of Music and in Stockholm.
Since 1995, she was the first cello of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra , and in 1998 she took part in a seminar conducted by the Sibelius Academy in Carnegie Hall ( New York ), which was led by Esa-Pekka Salonen . In the future she acted only as a conductor .
From 2002 to 2005 she was the musical director of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra. In August 2004, she first conducted the Ensemble Intercontemporain ( EIC ) at the Lucerne Festival, which Pierre Boulez created in 1976, performed works by Harrison Burtouistle .
From 2006 to 2013 she was the musical director of EIC. In November 2006, she conducted the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, in February 2007 the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra , and in August 2010, the Boston Orchestra ( Beethoven , Mendelssohn . Works with the most famous orchestras in Europe, USA, Japan.
On September 1, 2014, she was elected the chief conductor of the Helsinki Symphony Orchestra [1] and in the fall of 2016 will replace Jon Sturgords in this post.
In April 2016, she was appointed the main touring conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra and will take office in the fall of 2017 [2] .
Individual works
In 1999, Helsinki conducted the Finnish premiere of Thomas Ades opera , in 2004 - the opera Kaya Saariaho at the National Opera of Finland , and in 2006 - her opera at the festival in Vienna .
She recorded several works by Stuart MacRae , Veli-Matti Puumaly . In February 2011, she again conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra, for the first time in the United States performing the cello concert Eunsuk Chin (2009, soloist - Alban Gerhardt).
