He was the tutor of the Dauphin , the son of Louis XIV ; under his supervision, Bossuet and Pierre-Daniel Yue published the classics Ad usum Delphini . Montosier was distinguished by rigor and directness; he is considered the prototype of Moliere's "misanthrope."
His wife, Julie-Lucin d'Angenne (1607–1671), daughter of the Marquis de Rambouillet, known for her intelligence and beauty, made Montozier’s home a collection of famous scientists, poets, and artists. In 1661, she was appointed teacher of royal princes and princesses. The album donated to her by her husband: “The Garland of Julia ” (French: Guirlande de Julie), with flowers painted by the best artists and handwritten poems of famous poets of that time, appeared in print in 1784 and 1824.
