In 2007 she graduated from the St. Petersburg Academy of Theater Arts with a degree in Theater Studies - Manager . From 2003 to 2008 she worked at the Theater of Youth Creativity in St. Petersburg as a director and teacher.
In 2008, she entered the Moscow Art Theater School on a specialty “directing” for a course by Kirill Serebrennikov . During the training, along with the directors Ilya Shagalov, Maxim Myshansky and Alexander Sozonov, she participated in the work on the poetic performance “Red Line”, shown at the Winery Factory.
As a thesis, she staged the play “The Lark” based on the play of Jean Anouil at the Moscow Art Theater (2012), where the trial of Joan of Arc becomes a metaphor for domestic justice [1] . In the same year, as part of the Platform project, the Vinzavod Center for Contemporary Art delivered the Russian premiere of Sergei Nevsky ’s opera Autland, based on texts and poems by autists; the production caused mixed reviews from critics: Alena Karas in “Rossiyskaya Gazeta” saw in the direction of Berkovich “a naive but accurate reflection” of Nevsky’s music [2] , while Pyotr Pospelov in Vedomosti saw in the play “utterly flat drama and sweet, but unnecessary Directing ” [3] . The next work of Berkovich was met with ambiguity - the play “A man who did not work. The trial of Joseph Brodsky ”(2012), which was based on Brodsky’s poems and the record of the trial against him made by Frida Vigdorova [4] . Among the subsequent productions of Berkovich, the attention of the theater community was attracted by the “Solar Line” by Ivan Vyrypaev on the New Stage of the Alexandrinsky Theater in St. Petersburg (2018), which also did not avoid harsh criticism [5] .
