Second Level Domains
Domains must be registered at the third level as subdomains of existing second-level domains (SLD). In total there are at least eight second-level domains [2] :
- ac.zm : academic institutions
- co.zm : commercial organizations
- com.zm : commercial organizations
- edu.zm : academic institutions
- gov.zm : government agencies
- net.zm
- org.zm : non-profit organizations
- sch.zm : schools
Formally, the assignment of second-level domains, apparently, is not fixed, since ZAMNET does not provide the relevant documentation.
A documented exception to the rule for registering domains at the third level is registered Internet service providers [1] , which can register domains at the second level, for example, zamnet.zm . There are, however, other exceptions to this rule, for example, the domain of Bank of Zambia - boz.zm.
