Gagarin is the new international airport of the city of Saratov . It is located in the Saratov region, north of the village of Saburovka [1] . The straight line distance between the old and new airports is 20 km (northeast).

History

Due to the need to close the existing Saratov-Tsentralny airport for security reasons, in November 2007 the Ministry of Transport Development of the Saratov Region signed a contract to conduct survey work to select a site for the construction of a new Saratov airport . As of March 2008, three sites were considered: Lead-free ( Saratov district ), Saburovka , Radishchevo ( Novoburas district ), at the fork of the Bazarny Karabulak - Volsk highway 50 km from Saratov). In the spring of 2008, a site was selected in Saburovka [2] [3] .

On December 11, 2008, the issue of building an airport was considered by the Saratov Regional Duma. The timing of the start of design work, construction confirmed. The issue of redemption of land owned by farmers was resolved.

In October 2009, a story was passed on the Saratov television, confirming the timing of the construction of a new airport (until 2015).

At the end of June 2011, the Government of the Saratov Region completed the purchase of land for the construction of an airfield [4] .

The winner of the auction for the design of engineering infrastructure and communications was OJSC Volgomost.

On September 28, 2012, a tender was announced for the construction of the first phase of the airport in Saburovka.

In September 2013, the media reported that the Renova company is the main contender for the construction of a new Saratov airport [8] .

By July 2018, the readiness of the passenger terminal building of the new Saratov airport was 33%, which corresponds to the construction schedule. Finishing work has begun in all passenger service areas and technological zones [9] . The platform is completely ready.

In September 2018, the laying of the upper runway layer (Runway) was continued, laying on the part of the runway, which was built before the project was changed, was not carried out earlier due to identified problems with the runway foundation.

In April 2019, the airport was assigned the GSV code in accordance with Resolution No. 763 adopted by the Conference of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The assigned unique code is formed by using the name of the airport and the city of its location: G - G agarin, SV - S arato V. [10]

On August 18, 2019, the airport accepted a technical flight from Moscow [11] .

From August 20, 2019, the airport began the full reception and departure of all passenger flights previously serviced by the Saratov-Tsentralny airport.
